RIRS Surgery: No Cut, No Hole, No Pain

At the core of our urological services is Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) – a scar-free, minimally invasive procedure for the removal of kidney stones. Spearheaded by Dr. Pawan Kumar Gupta, the pioneer of RIRS in India, we offer cutting-edge kidney stone treatment that ensures faster recovery, minimal risk, and unmatched precision.

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) is an advanced endoscopic technique where a flexible ureteroscope is inserted through the natural urinary tract (urethra and bladder) to access the kidney and treat stones using laser lithotripsy. It requires no external incisions—making it the safest and most comfortable choice for eligible patients.

Key Features of RIRS

No Cut, No Scar

RIRS is performed without any cuts or stitches, avoiding traditional open surgery and ensuring a scar-free outcome.

Day-Care Procedure

Most patients are discharged the same day, with no need for prolonged hospital stays.

Minimal Pain & Faster Recovery

The use of fine instruments and precise lasers results in less tissue trauma, reduced pain, and quicker return to normal life.

Laser Stone Fragmentation

High-power Holmium laser technology is used to break kidney stones into dust-like particles, allowing natural passage through urine.

Safe for Complex Cases

Ideal for treating stones in difficult-to-reach areas like lower pole calyces, or in patients unfit for open or PCNL surgery.

Repeatable & Flexible

RIRS can be safely repeated for multiple stones or if new stones form in the future—no damage to kidney tissues.

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery) is a minimally invasive, no-cut procedure that uses a flexible ureteroscope inserted through the urethra to access and treat kidney stones using laser energy. Unlike open or PCNL surgery, RIRS requires no external incisions, resulting in less pain, faster recovery, and no visible scars.

RIRS is performed under general or spinal anesthesia, making it completely pain-free during the procedure. Post-operative discomfort is minimal, and most patients can resume normal activities within 1–2 days, making it a highly comfortable treatment option.

RIRS is ideal for kidney stones up to 2 cm in size, including complex or hard-to-reach stones. It’s especially useful for stones located in the lower pole of the kidney or for patients who cannot undergo traditional surgeries due to health risks.

RIRS is a very safe procedure with a low risk of complications when performed by experienced surgeons like Dr. Pawan Kumar Gupta. Recovery is quick — most patients are discharged the same day or within 24 hours and can resume regular life in just 1–3 days.

Conclusion

Dr. Pawan Kumar Gupta continues to lead the advancement of endoscopic kidney stone surgery in India. With his proven track record, technical innovation, and patient-first approach, he remains a trusted name for patients seeking safe, modern, and effective kidney stone treatment through RIRS.
